Crossing guard near 400 W. 200 North as Ellis Elementary School reopens Feb. 28, 2022

Logan City Police Lt. Brett Randall said a crossing guard will be at 400 W. 200 North during the morning, between 7-8 a.m. and again in the afternoon, between 1:30-2:30 p.m. A crossing guard will also be in front of the school, to help students and parents safely cross the roads.

“We want people to be aware of those crossing guards and be safe,  and make sure all the children get to and from school safely,” explained Randall.

In addition to crossing guards, school zones will be activated again, where the speed limit is reduced to 20 mph.

Randall said it has been more than two years since the school closed for reconstruction and many motorist are not used to seeing kids at those times during the mornings and afternoons. For the next several days, extra patrol officers will be out around the school.

“We want to help educate the motoring public, by slowing down, paying attention and yielding to those kids who are in the crosswalks and the crossing guards.”

For the past two years, Ellis Elementary students were bused to the old Hillcrest Elementary School during the reconstruction.
