NORTH LOGAN – The Rocky Mountain Veterans Center (RMVC) is hosting a Veterans Day Open House to honor those who have served their country and their families at their location, 1760 North 200 East in North Logan.
The open house will take place on Tuesday Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Veterans Day is a holiday held on the anniversary of the end of World War I and honors US veterans and victims of all wars.
RMVC wants to invite everyone to stop by the center on Veterans Day to enjoy a hot dog, refreshments, and good company. Those in attendance can register for door prizes provided by local businesses.
“Music by Marly” will provide the entertainment. Shanna Anderson, a Bear River Association of Governments VSO and social worker, will be available to assist veterans in filing VA benefit claims and answering questions regarding benefits.
The RMVC offers a host of benefits for veterans and their families. They are committed to improving the lives of veteran service men and women and their families in the Cache Valley area.
In 2023, the Census Bureau reported about 16 million veterans in the U.S. More than 1.7 million veterans are women. The veteran population is aging, about half of them are 65 or older. The Veterans Administration (VA) reports 136,333 veterans in Utah, with 61,771 being 65 and over.
Veterans constitute 5.1% of the adult population. Many of today’s veterans served in the Gulf War eras (August 1990-August 2001 and September 2001-present).
Research published by the PEW Research Institute revealed that Americans express feelings of pride and gratitude about veterans and the Armed Forces. At the same time, most Americans acknowledge they know little about the realities of military service or the problems faced by those in the military or their sacrifices.
Many Americans are also glad there are people willing to serve but would discourage family members from joining.
Since November 2023, the RMVC has proudly welcomed over 6,000 visitors to the center. Of these over 2,000 were veterans. Over 500 veterans met with a guest Veterans Service Officer (VSO) for assistance with filing VA disability benefit claims. There are over 16,000 Veterans living in the Cache Valley Area.
Sponsors for this year’s event are Lee’s Marketplace, Pepsi, Thermo-Fisher Scientific, and the RMVC Home Care Team.
