RICH COUNTY — The Rich County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the reported removal and vandalism of multiple political campaign signs placed throughout the county.

Authorities issued a public notice Thursday urging residents to respect political signage and warning that tampering with campaign materials carries strict legal consequences. Under Utah state law, knowingly removing, disposing of, altering, defacing, or vandalizing a political sign constitutes a Class B misdemeanor, unless authorized by specific legal exceptions.

Under Utah Code § 20A-17-102, individuals convicted of a Class B misdemeanor face penalties of up to six months in county jail and fines reaching $1,000.

Sheriff’s deputies are actively investigating the thefts. Law enforcement officials emphasized that public assistance could be vital in identifying those responsible for taking or damaging the signs.

The Rich County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information regarding the missing political signs or potential suspects to contact deputies directly.
