LOGAN – The reprise of the much beloved Halloween dance review Thriller slated here in Logan will be part of a grand tour of Utah by the famed Odyssey Dance Theatre.
The local performances are slated for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 and 24 at the Ellen Eccles Theatre, followed by a statewide tour scheduled to run from Sept. 26 to Nov. 1 with stops to the south in Layton, Park City, Salt Lake City and St. George.
Originally conceived by ODT founder and choreographer Darryl Yeager in the mid-1990s, Thriller started small, but quickly grew into a Halloween spectacular that has been wowing Utah audiences for more than twenty years.
Thriller is simply a great show. There are gorgeous costumes, dazzling special effects, a marvelous soundtrack mixing classical and contemporary music, lots of laughs and a few jump-out-of-your-seat scares.
Not to mention the great dancing. That’s taken for granted when the ODT dancers take the stage.
Moreover, the show is part of a Halloween tradition for thousands of dedicated dance fans and that holiday wasn’t the same without a visit from ODT.
The show is made up of production numbers ranging in scale from duets to real mob scenes. The styles of dancing in Thriller run the gamut from classic ballet to hip-hop, but Yeager’s hoofers have all of those techniques gloriously down pat.
All the old favorite dance routines are still there. After all, Thriller wouldn’t be Thriller without Curse of the Mummy, Dem Bones, the Frankenstein ballet, Jason’s Jam, the Children of the Corn, Salem’s Mass, The Lost Boys and – of course – Thriller.
Once the Halloween tour is completed, the dance tour will dedicate itself to preparing for its Christmas show – the Christmas Spectacular, SPECTACULAR.
“Why go to endless Christmas productions,” Yeager jokes, “when you can get your complete holiday fix at ODT?”
That production will include musical and dance excerpts from A Christmas Carol, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Nutcracker, White Christmas and the Radio City Hall Rockettes.
In the spring of 2026, the ODT will restage its acclaimed dance reviews Shut Up a & Dance, Romeo + Juilet and Chicago Nights.
