RIVER HEIGHTS – The Cache Valley Humanitarian Center (CVHC) has moved from their Riverwood Parkway location to the retired River Heights Elementary School located at 420 S. 500 E. in River Heights.
A finished hygiene kit awaits for a worthy recipient on Wednesday Jan. 29, 2025.
They wasted no time putting volunteers to work making a variety of items for people having a rough time and families immigrating to Cache Valley from other countries.
CVHS has impacted Cache Valley in the four years since Dwight and Kay Whittaker, directors of the CVHC, began the nonprofit organization.
They have made big strides in connecting willing people with service opportunities.
People are using three classrooms and the cafeteria of the old school. They are quilting in one room, making newborn and hygiene kits in another, then in the cafeteria area sleeping mats are made.
“We are getting more donations and volunteers; our space is filling up fast,” he said. “This is our fourth move since we started.”
The center was established in 2021 with the help of Cache Valley Morning and Logan Rotary clubs.
When the Hyrum Humanitarian Center closed it brought some of those volunteers to CVHC. They create 30 newborn kits with 38 crib quilts a month. Donations are coming in but they could always use good clean fabric if anyone has any to donate.

Dwight keeps track of all the statistics. They have 85 repeat volunteers that come more than five times and 3,469 repeat visits with 8,559 hours of volunteer service.
In the time they have been operating the center they have worked with 40 non-profit organizations including three school districts, providing over 13,000 individuals with a variety of needed items: back-to-school kits, hygiene kits, sleeping mats, coats, quilts, and books. Volunteers have donated over 24,000 hours of their time.
