LOGAN – If you live in Cache County and own property, you may see your taxes increase next year.
Cache County is proposing to increase its property tax budgeted revenue by 10.06% above last year’s revenue excluding eligible new growth and council members are asking for public input.
A public hearing on the proposed increase will be held at 6:30 pm, Tuesday, November 26 at the Historic Cache County Council Chambers, 199 North Main, Logan.
“We realize everyone is busy, but we want to be proponents of transparent government and invite the public to come out and speak their mind,” said Dianna Schaeffer, County Chief Deputy Auditor.
The approximate percentage, purpose and dollar amount of the proposed increase will be discussed, added Schaeffer.
“This is an important notice because it is the only chance that the public gets to speak to the tax increase, to ask their elected officials the purpose of the tax increase and to voice any other concerns they may have,” she said.
There are an estimated 46,000 parcels in the county that would be impacted by the tax hike, amounting to an average increase of $26.16 per year.
Council Executive Craig Buttars stressed the 10.06% proposal is not set in stone and the council could always lower that percentage.
