PROVIDENCE – While many towns in Cache Valley are grappling with changes in garbage services, residents of Providence can breathe a sigh of relief as their services remain unaffected for the time being.
Last year, Logan City, the primary provider of garbage services throughout Cache County, declared its decision to discontinue its services by the end of 2023. In response, several cities in the region banded together to explore alternative waste management systems. However, Providence took a different approach.
During a recent session, the Providence City Council unanimously approved a proposal to seek bids for the acquisition of their own commercial garbage trucks. Simultaneously, they devised a comprehensive plan to transition to an internal waste management system.
The council promptly placed orders for new garbage trucks to serve the residents of Providence. Additionally, preliminary measures have been set in motion to ensure a smooth transition to the city’s independent waste services. The provision of garbage, recycling, and green waste pickup will continue uninterrupted under the new system, although specific pickup days may change. The anticipated commencement of the switch in service is expected in late spring of 2024. Until then, Providence will continue to honor its contract with Logan City.
The city officials have assured residents that they will receive further updates and relevant information as it becomes available. These updates will be disseminated through various channels, including social media platforms, the official city website, and the monthly newsletter.
