LOGAN — A 22-year-old Providence man is facing charges of allegedly attempting to strangle a woman during a domestic dispute, according to law enforcement. William Carter Murdock was briefly booked Thursday into the Cache County Jail after Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a domestic dispute.
According to an arrest affidavit, deputies were called to the domestic dispute Jan. 22. The alleged victim claimed Murdock had attempted to strangle her, placing his hands on her throat and pinning her to the floor.
The woman described how the assault continued between two to four minutes. It ended after she was reportedly able to bit his finger, drawing blood.
Deputies interviewed Murdock, who denied the allegations. They noted how the suspect had a laceration on his index finger consistent with a bite injury. He also would reportedly change his account of the events while being interviewed.
According to court records, Murdock was arraigned Friday in 1st District Court during a virtual hearing, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with one count of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.
Murdock is currently out of jail on pretrial release. He is scheduled to appear again in court Feb. 3, and could face up to five years in prison.
