LOGAN — A 37-year-old Providence man has admitted to sexually assaulting a woman three years ago. Preston Leigh Gauruder accepted a plea deal that will keep the victim from having to go through a trial.

Gauruder appeared Monday, April 28 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He pleaded guilty to attempted forcible sexual abuse, amended to a third-degree felony; and misdemeanors for sexual battery, assault and intoxication.

As part of the plea resolution, the felony charge will be held in abeyance, meaning it can be dismissed if Gauruder obeys all laws and complies with probation agents.

According to prosecutors, the crimes occurred Nov. 30, 2021. The victim and defendant were in a relationship at the time.

Gauruder is currently out of jail. He is scheduled to be sentenced July 7 and could face up to one year in jail.
