SALT LAKE CITY — President Russell M. Nelson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will dedicate the Deseret Peak Utah Temple in Tooele, Utah, on Sunday, Nov. 10.
Church officials said the event will mark a significant milestone as the Deseret Peak Utah Temple becomes the Church’s 200th temple in operation worldwide.
The ceremony, taking place at 4 p.m., will be broadcast to local meetinghouses within the temple district and rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will join President Nelson for the dedication.
The temple was first announced by President Nelson on April 7, 2019. A public open house was held from Sept. 26 to Oct. 19, 2024, allowing thousands of visitors to tour the temple and learn about its importance.
Since becoming president of the Church in 2018, President Nelson has announced 185 temples – more than half of all temples in the Church. Earlier this year, he rededicated the Manti Utah Temple.
Earlier this month during the Church’s general conference, President Nelson asked, “Why are we building temples at such an unprecedented pace? Because the Lord has instructed us to do so. The blessings of the temple help gather Israel on both sides of the veil. These blessings also help prepare a people who will help prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Lord!”
