POCATELLO, Idaho — A 69-year-old Pocatello man died early Thursday after his car crossed an interstate median and collided head-on with a semi-truck, according to the Idaho State Police.
The fatal crash occurred at 7:12 a.m. on Interstate 15 near mile marker 69. Investigators said the man was driving a Nissan Altima northbound when the vehicle veered off the roadway, crossed the median, and crashed into a southbound Freightliner semi-truck.
The driver of the Altima, who police said was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck, a 39-year-old Utah man, was wearing a seatbelt and survived the impact.
The identities of both men have yet to be released, pending notification of family and the investigation.
The collision forced the closure of the southbound lanes of I-15 for roughly four and a half hours while multiple local emergency agencies responded. The crash remains under investigation.
