GARDEN CITY – Wondering what to do with your family after dinner on Turkey Day?
Instead of watching football, you could enjoy the Pickleville Playhouse production of Thick as Thieves – without taking the long drive through Logan Canyon to Garden City.
“Our original brand of hilarious, improvisational tomfoolery is coming to your living room this holiday season,” according to Pickleville director/composer Derek Davis.
Davis and company are offering a couple of different ways to access a professional recording of their original, sold-out musical melodrama Thick as Thieves, captured in front of a live audience in the summer of 2023.
Pickleville’s Weekend Pass option will give you the option to access that recorded production anytime from Wednesday, Nov. 22 to Sunday, Nov. 26, as often as you like.
The company’s Extended Pass provides access to the Thick as Thieves recording from Wednesday, Nov. 22 to New Year’s Eve on Sunday, Dec. 31.
The Pickleville folks say that their Extended Pass option makes Thick as Thieves a Thanksgiving treat, a Christmas gift for the whole family and a way to safely celebrate the New Year in your own home — or anywhere else you might be.
The digital recording is being presented as a service of AnywhereSeat, which allows you to purchase access to Pickleville Playhouse events and then attend from virtually anywhere in the world.
“When you purchase your spot,” Davis said, explaining how the deal works, “you’ll reserve your virtual seat by receiving a special ticket code. To unlock (the recording), you simply enter your ticket code whenever it’s time to watch.”
In his roles as playwright, Davis added – modestly, of course — that Thick as Thieves was one of the most raved-about shows in Pickleville history.
The musical melodrama revolves around a pair of slick con artists from an impoverished theater family improbably named Roger and Hamm R. Stein (get it?) who are out to make a killing, even if it kills them. And it might.
The con artists are being dogged by Brisket, a meat-obsessed detective who may have a few other quirks in her closet. She blackmails them into putting on a show at the old family theater to help solve their late parents’ murder.
But who’s conning who?
The cast of the recording of Thick as Thieves includes Pickleville newcomer Will Mosier and veteran Nathan Kremin as the slippery Stein brothers, Jaycee Harris as the detective, Anna Erickson as the loyal Becky the techie, Taylor Hall channeling Joe Exotic the Tiger King and the luscious Katja Roberts as the bombshell showgirl Alexa.
“Cuddle with your entire family and be ready for the kind of holiday ab workout only Pickleville hysterics can provide,” Davis predicted. “This one’s a real doozy!”
The weekend pass to Thick as Thieves is $29 and the extended pass is $49.
