OREM — Carson Jorgensen will soon be leaving the position he currently holds, being chair for the Utah Republican Party. But last week he announced a big name for the upcoming state convention.
“Something I’ve been working on here for about 6 months now, and thanks to a few people who helped me get it over the finish line. But it’s just been a big pull to get Governor Ron DeSantis from Florida to come and headline our convention, but we’re super excited about it,” Jorgensen said.
On KVNU’s For the People program last week, he talked about how they were able to attract the potential presidential candidate.
“He came out and did a fundraiser earlier on, this last year, and we were able to…they raised quite a bit of money here and in, so out of the good graces, I believe they figured ‘I think it’s time to pay a lot of attention to Utah’. And Utah is going to become a player, and I hope that Utah’s just not something that gets overlooked from here on out. That’s what we’re trying to do, we’re trying to put Utah on the map, to make sure that to the national media, we are not a flyover state, that we’re somewhere where people need to come and see and play.”
Jorgensen said his main focus was not in getting DeSantis, the presidential candidate, but more as governor of Florida, and what he’s done in that state.
The Utah G.O.P. Organizing Convention will be April 22nd at Utah Valley University in Orem.
