HYRUM — A free, family-friendly literacy event is coming to the Hyrum Library on Saturday, June 14, as Operation Literacy presents READ-A-CON — a day focused on early reading, fun prizes and family support.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the library, located at 50 W. Main Street in Hyrum, and is open to children ages 0–11 and their families. Children can drop in at any time during the event to read books and earn treats and prizes for their participation.
In addition to encouraging reading through play and positive reinforcement, READ-A-CON will offer free dyslexia screenings for children and provide educational resources to help families address early literacy challenges.
Organizers said the event is designed not just as a fun activity but as part of a broader initiative to combat the national literacy crisis. Operation Literacy, a nonprofit behind the event, works to improve reading outcomes through book distribution, author visits, early screening programs, and access to structured literacy tools.
“READ-A-CON brings communities together around a shared goal: ensuring every child learns to read,” the organization said in a statement.
