LOGAN – Another casualty of the winter storm that struck the Intermountain West over the weekend was the musical comedy Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood that was scheduled to debut at the Utah Theatre here on Monday, Jan. 30.

The first performance of the two-night stand of touring play by the Theatre Arts Department at Utah State University Eastern in Price was cancelled.

A notice posted at the darkened Utah Theatre on Monday explained that a truck carrying the show’s sets and properties was stranded by the heavy snowstorm in Wyoming on Sunday.

The truck arrived in Logan on Monday, but not early enough to dress the Utah Theatre’s stage for the performance of Sherwood that evening.

The cast and crew of Sherwood promises that the show, directed by Corey Ewan, associate professor of acting at USU Eastern, will be performed as scheduled on Tuesday evening.

The theater will honor all tickets sold previously for Monday’s performance on Tuesday or will issue refunds on request.

Sherwood is, of course, an alternative telling of Robin Hood, penned by Ken Ludwig.

Ludwig is the one of the American theatre’s most prolific playwrights, whose works have been performed in more than 30 countries in 20 languages.

The Ludwig canon includes farces, musicals and stage adaptations of classic literature. Our own Lyric Repertory Company has performed two of Ludwig’s best farces, Lend Me a Tenor a decade ago and the recent A Fox on the Fairway.

The playwright’s original script for Sherwood calls for eight actors to perform a total of 38 roles in a musical filled with slapstick and Monty Python-style humor, plus a good deal of audience participation.

Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

The Utah Theatre is located at 18 West Center Street in downtown Logan.
