FRANKLIN COUNTY, Idaho — Officials have released the identity of a 60-year-old Preston man who died in a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon, April 13. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office confirmed Leon Loveland passed away due to injuries sustained in the accident.
The crash was reported at 2:29 p.m. on US-91, north of Preston, at approximately mile marker 13, south of the Bear River Memorial Park.
Idaho State Police report Loveland was driving a Yamaha motorcycle northbound on US-91 when it struck a BMW X3 as it was slowing to turn.
The BMW was being driven northbound by a 64-year-old female with a 66-year-old male passenger, both from Fruit Heights, Utah.
Police report Loveland was pronounced dead at the scene. They did not say whether or not he was wearing a helmet.
The driver and passenger of the BMW did not sustain any major injuries.
Loveland’s sister, Rhonda Cramer posted on social media that it was with a “very heavy heart” she announced her brother’s death. She wrote, Leon died “doing what he loved, living care free and riding his bike.”
Funeral services are still being arranged.
