BOX ELDER COUNTY — An off-duty Garland firefighter was critically injured Friday in a collision involving a UTV and a passenger vehicle.

According to a press release, the Box Elder County Communications Center received multiple 911 calls about the crash on Highway 13 shortly after 1 p.m. Garland Fire Department Engine 41 and Battalion 40 responded to the scene, along with Tremonton Ambulance and multiple law enforcement agencies.

Upon arrival, first responders found the male operator of the UTV had been ejected onto the roadway. He was later identified as an off-duty firefighter for the Garland Fire Department. Bystanders were already providing aid before emergency crews arrived.

The firefighter was treated at the scene and then transported to a local hospital. From there, he was flown to a regional trauma center in critical but stable condition.

His name is being withheld out of respect for him and his family. The Garland Fire Department is asking the community to keep him and his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.

The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
