CACHE COUNTY – Peaceful demonstrations against the Trump administration will resume on Saturday, Oct. 18 when local activists stage another “No Kings” protest here.

That event is slated for 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the square at the Historic Cache County Court House.

Sponsored by WeThePeopleCacheValley, that gathering will be part of a nationwide day of non-violent protest aimed at showing resistance to President Donald Trump’s authoritarian policies, according to Jim Evans, one of the local organizers.

“We will rally, march and meet to express our support for democracy and the rule of law,” Evans emphasizes. “This peaceful day of action is going to bring together local residents from all walks of life who share a simple message: ‘We don’t do kings in America’.”

Organizers say that the local protest will be just one of thousands being scheduled across the country on Oct. 18, with ten in Utah alone, from St. George to Logan.

As they have before, organizers predict that millions of Americans will be involved in that coordinated protest effort.

Activists groups adopted the Democratic mantra that “Trump is a threat to democracy” almost as soon the result of the 2024 general election became obvious.

During a “Workers over Billionaires” nationwide protest organized on Labor Day, USA Today reported large crowds turned out at rallies and marches in major cities including Boston, Chicago, Detroit and New York.

As happened earlier during “No Kings” protests in June and “Good Trouble Lives On” events in July, however, the Labor Day demonstration drew more modest crowds out in mostly red, flyover states.

Unlike previous chief executives, Trump seems to immune to the impact of these protests. Since the Labor Day event, Trump has continued mass deportations of criminal aliens; surged National Guard troops to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Portland and Los Angeles; bolstered law enforcement efforts in Memphis, Washington, D.C. and Chicago; and declared war on Mexican, Central and South American drug cartels.

This latest round of protests are being coordinated by the usual collation of left-leaning groups including the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Federation of Teachers, Common Defense, the Human Rights Campaign, Indivisible (of which WeThePeopleCacheValley is an affiliate), the League of Conservation Voters, MoveOn, National Nurses United, Public Citizen and the Service Employees International Union, among others.

WeThePeopleCacheValley plans to also host a local food drive, distribute voter/election information and highlight community groups on Oct. 18.

Evans says that all “No Kings” events will adhere to a shared commitment to non-violent protest and community safety.

“Our organizers are trained in de-escalation,” he adds, “and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide.”

The Historic Cache County Courthouse is located at 199 North Main Street in Logan.
