LOGAN — A 49-year-old New Mexico man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a Logan girl several years ago, according to law enforcement. Kenneth Ray Mayfield was booked June 30 into the Cache County Jail a month after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
According to court paperwork, Logan City Police were contacted in January about a possible child sex abuse allegation that occurred between three and four years ago. A 14-year-old girl claimed she had been inappropriately touched by Mayfield, an uncle, while he was visiting her family’s home.
The alleged victim described several incidents of being molested by Mayfield, as he would tell her that what he was doing was “fine” or “okay.” The girl was between 9 and 10 years old at the time of the allegations.
Police discovered Mayfield was previously convicted of sex abuse of a child in Brigham City. In 2005, he was ordered to serve a term of one-to-15-years in prison, according to the arrest affidavit.
Officers attempted to contact Mayfield by phone for two months, leaving several messages. He later reportedly called back and stated his attorney advised him not to speak to law enforcement.
According to court paperwork, Mayfield has been charged in Logan’s 1st District Court with object rape of a child and aggravated sexual abuse of a child, both first-degree felonies. He is scheduled to appear before a judge July 7.
Mayfield remains in jail, being held without bail. He could face up to life in prison, if convicted.
