HYRUM – Mountain Crest opened another game strong taking a 12-7 lead in to the second quarter but let the second get away from them again. Logan used a 18-5 run through the entire second quarter to gain the lead and never give it up. The even periods belonged to the Grizzlies as they opened the fourth quarter on a 13-3 run to go up 15 and hold on for a 60-47 win.

The biggest play of the game was a non-call against Logan that changed the entire first half. Mountain Crest senior Caleb Archibald stole the ball in the second but couldn’t gather the ball and was called for a double dribble. After the whistle, Archibald was shoved by Logan’s Isaac Larsen. It seemed to warrant a whistle, especially since Archibald hurt his knee and needed to be helped to the locker room. The Grizzlies closed the last two minutes on an 8-0 after the injury to take the 25-17 lead.

Mountain Crest only had three players score until junior Nick Lefevre hit two free throws with 98 seconds left in the game. Tanner Bone led the team with 18 points, 9 in the third quarter, but Larsen switched to him after he scored four more in the fourth and he was shut down the rest of the way. Leading scorer Marshall Nethercott finished with 16, including going 7 of 7 from the free throw line, but missed chunks of the game with foul trouble. Archibald played in the second after getting hurt and finished with 11 but had a noticeable limp.

The Grizzlies offense started slow but leading scorer Jadin Penigar took over in the second half. Penigar scored 8 in the third and finished with a game high 20. Larsen’s speed was key in the second half as Logan Brown’s squad killed the clock and Larsen broke the press. The junior finished with 14 and scored 8 in the final quarter. Ethan Davis was the other Grizzly in double figures, finishing with 11.

Both teams struggled to protect the ball in the first half, Mountain Crest turned it over 12 times and Logan 9. However, the Mustangs couldn’t make corrections finishing with 17 turnovers to the Grizzlies 11. Both teams have struggled from the charity stripe all season but took advantage tonight; Mountain Crest was 13/13 and Logan was 15/20.

With the Logan win, and Green Canyon and Bear River losing, the Grizzlies move out of a three-way tie to solely in third place at 3-3 in Region 11. Mountain Crest is still looking for their first region win as they fall to 0-6.
