Cayenne Alisa Beard has been missing since Monday night, Dec. 11.
NORTH LOGAN—A 17-year-old girl has been found safe more than a week after she left her North Logan home. Cayenne Alisa Beard was located in Oregon Wednesday, Dec. 20, according to law enforcement.
Police said they are currently working to reunite the teen with her family, bringing an end to the 10 day search that involved multiple law enforcement agencies and other individuals.
North Park Police Chief Kent Goodrich said, “We cannot adequately express our gratitude to the men and women who have tirelessly been working on this case. While we are a small department our investigative team followed every lead and worked to leverage all available resources to locate her.”
In a press release, the Weber family also expressed their appreciation to law enforcement “for their dedication of time and resources that went into finding Cayenne safe.” They also thanked the media and community for all of their help in the effort to find their daughter.
Cayenne’s parents said she went to bed on Dec. 11, but the next morning she was nowhere to be found and the back door was unlocked. She had also left her cellphone.
Police learned that Cayenne had another “burner phone” that had been given to her by a friend. They were able to track that phone to downtown Salt Lake City on the morning of Dec. 12, before the phone turned off.
Goodrich said, “Throughout the course of this investigation the North Park Police Department has worked with many law enforcement agencies including Cache County Attorney’s Office, Logan Police Department, Cache County Victims Advocates, Provo Police Department, Salt Lake Police Department, Utah Department of Public Safety, and local law enforcement agencies in the Oregon community where she was safely located.”
The police department posted on social media about Cayenne’s absence on Dec. 14, saying she was possibly endangered. Days later they indicated that she left willingly with someone she was communicating with over the phone. They discovered she was in contact with an unknown number that may have been connected to her disappearance.
Law enforcement has not released the identity of the individual who was with Cayenne. A criminal investigation is underway.
Goodrich concluded, “The FBI’s involvement in the case brought additional resources that would otherwise have been unavailable to the North Park Police Department Investigative team. Without their collaboration, we would not have been able to exhaust the leads coming into the department that ultimately lead to her safe return. We appreciate the continued assistance of the media in keeping Cayenne’s story visible to the public for more than a week.”
