RICHMOND – Miss United International Elite (UIE) Isabella Corona has started a sharing shelf with all kinds of foods to help out her community in Richmond.

Isabella and her Mother, Melissa Corona, have put the sharing shelf at 8 South State Street in Richmond right across the Richmond post office. The sharing shelf, right now, has boxed food and canned food.

“We’re just doing boxed food and canned food. We have noticed a lot of people have been bringing hygiene items, like shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and people have been talking about it as well,” said Melissa.

Melissa and Isabella talked to people around their community.

“I didn’t really know that there was a need here, until we started asking some people, and they told us there was a lot more of a need here,” said Melissa.

Melissa and Isabella started talking and wanted to do something that could help their community, and the sharing shelf was born.

The sharing shelf has now been open since Veterans Day, November 11.

They received donations and were put in the sharing shelf.

“We’ve had a lot of people donate and a lot of people take stuff. So it shows a need and the more need that we get, the longer we’re going to keep it going,” she said.

Melissa and Isabella have noticed that their community has been taking things from the sharing shelf, but only things that they need at the moment.

“Our community is being very generous, both with not only donating the food as they take the food, they’re organizing it,” she said.

Right now, the sharing shelf is open for the holidays but “if it continues to go the way it is, we’re going to find a little bit more permanent place,” she said.
