LOGAN – Minky Couture bought the Wimmers Sewing and Vacuuming store back in April and the company has been renovating the space preparing it for their new location.
Before buying the building, Minky has done some pop-ups in Logan and in Idaho and has had everyone asking when they would have a store in Logan.
They have also had Cache Valley residents traveling to Ogden or Layton to purchase luxury designer blankets and have been asking when a store would open in Logan.
Minky has always planned to have a store in Cache Valley, but they have looked for years and years for a spot and it never felt right, until now. Kristine Snow is the chief of operations at Minky Couture.

“When the Wimmer building came available, we were looking up there for years, and nothing felt quite right,” said Snow.
Minky will now have eight stores in the state but with each store it has a special meaning to the owner.
“Our first store was the Layton store, which is where (owner) Sandi (Hendry) currently lives, and that’s where our flagship store (is). Then…the Orem store, Sandi was born and raised in Orem. Her dad owned a business there, and so that is just fun nostalgia for her,” said Snow.
Minky wouldn’t be a complete stranger in the community. Hendry and her husband have family in Logan and have also been partnered with Utah State University for years.
“It’s not like we’re going into an unknown area. It’s very known,” Snow added. “And, yeah, it’s always been when and we’re just looking for the right spot, the right location. And we’ve partnered with Utah State for years, and so it was never an if, it’s always been a when.”
Minky has put out an announcement that they are hiring and have had an “outpouring of excitement.”
With Minky taking over the spot of the Wimmer’s location, they will still keep the original design of the store but make it in their own style.
“We are in the process of painting it. It’s a very white, black and white façade. The color that was existing was a brown brick, and it just didn’t feel quite Minky, but we’re keeping quite a bit of that exterior structure,” Snow explained. “We’ve added a few things here and there, but I think overall, people will be able to drive by and see the remnants of what was there, like, ‘Oh, yep, there’s the old Wimmer building,’ and Minkey Couture has just not replaced that, but added to it.”
Minky Couture is targeting August 28th for its open date, but it also depends on if there are any bumps in the road with construction and, if there are, they still plan on opening in the last week of August or the first week of September.
“We’re just excited to be part of the neighborhood, and our goal is to add something to the community and to be part of the community,“ said Snow.
