MENDON – For such a small town in Cache Valley, Mendon packs a big punch for their Pioneer Day celebration activities.

The Mendon DUP will give tours through the James G. Willie rock house, located at 97 N. 100 W. in Mendon on Saturday.

The week was slammed with activities during the week, including the sidewalk chalk art contests, canoe races, chili cook-off and more.

Saturday’s activities get started at 6:30 a.m. with a Sunrise Fun Run followed by the Fireman’s Breakfast and the 8 a.m. Flag Ceremony.

There are chicken chases and rabbit races plus the Great Race.

The Great Race begins after the Pioneer Parade that starts at noon. Parade organizers have designated a wet zone for those who want to be dowsed with water to stay cool.

The Mendon Great Race has five teams of 47 people doing over 20 events. The events include 10 Square Dancers, a Pony Express Rider, Tricycle racers, Log Pounders Handcart pullers and Pie Eaters.

Mendonites love their food. There is a Pancake Eating Contest, Baking Contest for adults and kids as well as the Chili Cook Off they had earlier in the week. And they are opening the hamburger stand for the festivities.
