April 12, 1932April 19, 2022 (age 90)

Mary Virginia Francis Kent, 90, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2022.

Virginia was born on April 12, 1932, in Cortland, Cortland County, New York, to Ada Leola Walden and Frank Wilson Francis. She attended schools in Cortland until her senior year. She received her High School diploma (GED) after she married Henry Clarence Kent in the Logan Temple on May 20, 1949. They made their home in Malad where they farmed and reared five children.

She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1942 when her family was converted to the gospel. She held many church positions, and especially loved her work as a family search librarian. She also did a lot of work researching the pedigrees of her ancestors. She loved music and had a beautiful alto voice.

Her greatest joy was rearing her children and watching her grandchildren (19), and great grandchildren (47) grow. She also loved to travel, especially if flying was involved, and experience new adventures. She spent many hours quilting, and sewing for her children and grandchildren. She loved to read, watch movies and listen to good music. She worked at a stationary store and an ice cream shop before she moved to Malad, and for a time at Millers Jewelry and the Bureau of Land Management. She learned to cook as a new bride on a coal stove, and became an excellent cook. No one ever left the house hungry.

We will miss her kind heart, love of adventure, generosity, and friendly nature. She was a good friend to many and loved by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sibling (Stanley Francis), her husband, H. Clarence, and infant son, James Clarence.

Survived by children Maralyn Kent, Julianne (Matthew) Smith, David (Vicky) Kent, Robert (Kathy) Kent, Laurene (Jeff) Semrad, and brother James Francis.
