BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — A male driver was transported to the hospital in critical condition Monday morning following a serious T-bone collision near the Elwood overpass on Highway 13, according to the Tremonton Fire Department.

First responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:45 a.m. Initial reports indicated a severe collision involving a vehicle that had left the roadway and traveled down an embankment. Bystanders who stopped to assist discovered an unresponsive man trapped inside the car.

Emergency personnel from Tremonton Heavy Rescue 231 and Ambulance 231 arrived alongside multiple law enforcement officers to begin rescue operations. Fire crews worked to extricate the victim from the vehicle. Once freed, Tremonton Fire paramedics administered initial medical care and prepared the man for emergency transport.

An AirLife Utah medical helicopter responded and landed at the scene to assist with patient transport. However, rapidly approaching severe weather created unsafe flying conditions, preventing the helicopter crew from airlifting the patient.

First responders adapted by moving the victim via ground transport. The patient was taken in critical condition by ground ambulance, with the helicopter’s specialized flight medical team accompanying local paramedics to provide continuous care during the trip.

Multiple public safety entities assisted during the emergency, including the Tremonton-Garland Police Department, the Utah Highway Patrol, the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, and Box Elder Communications.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by law enforcement officials, and no additional details regarding the driver’s identity or the circumstances leading to the crash have been released.
