WELLSVILLE — A man was arrested Sunday night after being accused of shooting at a vehicle on I-15 and fleeing from highway patrol troopers through three counties.

The Utah Highway Patrol reported that just before 5 p.m., a driver on northbound I-15 in Weber County called 911, claiming that a fellow driver had shot at his vehicle at least three times. Troopers said it appeared to be some sort of road rage incident, and the vehicle he was shooting at was not hit.

The suspect’s vehicle was spotted on US-89/91 in Box Elder County, heading toward Cache Valley. Law enforcement tried to pull the car over, but the driver allegedly would not stop and troopers began a pursuit.

As the suspected vehicle was coming out of Sardine Canyon near Wellsville, troopers were able to set out spike strips, which the driver ran over, causing him to lose control and roll the car.

The suspect got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody. Officials believe he suffered only minor injuries.

The man admitted to having four firearms in the vehicle. UHP troopers said they searched and found three handguns and one rifle inside.

The suspect is in police custody but in a local hospital receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. His name has not been released. Charges are pending the completion of law enforcement’s investigation.
