LOGAN — A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $5,000 from a Logan grocery store where he was employed, according to law enforcement. Brandon Michael Mueller was booked Saturday into the Cache County Jail.

According to the arrest affidavit, Logan City Police officers were called to the warehouse retail store on report of an employee who had been stealing money from the business. The complainant said Mueller had been using the store’s computer system to create refunds on items such as batteries and tires, and sending the refund to his own debit card.

Financial records showed the fraudulent transactions occurred between 15-20 times, between May 2023 and Dec. 2024. The total amount of money that was reported taken was $5,575.

Police questioned Mueller, who reportedly confessed to creating the false refunds. He claimed to have started doing it to help another employee who was in financial trouble but then began keeping some of the money for himself.

Mueller told police that he and the other employee would alternate creating the false refunds and share the money with each other over a cash sharing app. The other suspect was not identified by police, as the investigation is still pending.

According to jail records, Mueller was booked on suspicion of unlawful use of technology, pattern of unlawful activity, and communications fraud, all second-degree felonies. He was later released, pending arraignment of formal charges in Logan’s 1st District Court.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
