LOGAN — A 36-year-old Logan man has been arrested for allegedly trying to rob and assault an individual in a Logan parking lot. Andrew K. Whitehead was booked Thursday morning into the Cache County Jail.

According to an arrest report, Logan City Police officers were contacted by an individual Tuesday, who claimed a man had grabbed and strangled them. The suspect was described as being a bigger guy, with a reddish-blonde beard, and wearing a baseball hat.

The alleged victim reported, Whitehead had approached them, claiming that he had stolen his phone. During the confrontation the suspect placed his hands around their neck and began strangling them.

As the fight continued, Whitehead allegedly reached into the alleged victim’s pocket, grabbing their phone. He then reportedly realized it was not his and returned it, before releasing the individual and walking away.

Police reported the alleged victim had red marks on their neck. Video footage obtained in the parking lot also showed the confrontation.

After identifying Whitehead as the alleged suspect, officers attempted to question him about the incident. He reportedly refused to give any information and requested a lawyer.

Jail records show, Whitehead was booked temporarily on suspicion of robbery, a second-degree felony; aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor. He will likely be arraigned on formal charges, pending the completion of law enforcement’s investigation.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
