LOGAN — Many in Cache Valley spent several hours in the dark and cold Monday night after a major power outage. The outage was reported by customers in parts of Logan, Providence, Nibley, Hyrum and other locations.

Rocky Mountain Power spokesperson Jona Whitesides said the outage began around 11 p.m. and lasted for several hours. Crews were immediately dispatched and able to restore electricity by 2 a.m.

The cause of the outage was traced to a switch that was frozen due to cold temperatures. It was repaired quickly after being traced and discovered.

Logan City Light and Power director Mark Montgomery said the city receives electricity from two lines. One of those lines were impacted in the Monday night outage, which caused the outage to impact residents in the eastside of the city.

Temperatures during the outage was in the teens.

Whitesides said, at the peak of the outage more than 988 customers were without electricity. Hundreds of others reported brief disruptions.
