LOGAN — A 23-year-old Logan woman is being bound for trial on charges of burglarizing a Logan residence and assaulting the homeowner earlier this year. Eva M. Flores, who was previously convicted of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and domestic violence in the presence of a child, was arrested on the latest case Jan. 25.

Flores participated in a virtual hearing in 1st District Court Wednesday morning, appearing by web conference from the Cache County Jail. She was previously charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; riot, a third-degree felony; and other offences.

Defense attorney Ryan Holdaway said Flores wished to waive her rights to a preliminary hearing, where a judge would have determined whether or not prosecutors had sufficient evidence to bind her over for trial. He asked for more time to work out a possible plea agreement.

According to Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen, the alleged victim claimed that Flores, who was a prior acquaintance, pushed her way into his residence during a dispute on Jan. 1. Once inside, she punched the homeowner before fleeing the scene.

The crime allegedly occurred while Flores was already on probation.

In February 2019, she was sentenced to one-year in jail for encouraging a 14-year-old girl to have sex with two older men.

Earlier in 2018, she and her boyfriend got into an argument while drinking alcohol. She became angry and stabbed the victim while the couple’s two children were watching. The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

During Wednesday’s court appearance, Judge Brian Cannell accepted Flores’ waiver and ordered her to appear again in court April 6.

Flores is being held in jail without bail. She could face up to life in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
