LOGAN — The Logan City Police Department is urging residents to lock their vehicle doors and bring keys inside to protect against preventable vehicle burglaries.

In a public safety announcement, department officials emphasized that while Logan remains a relatively safe community, local vehicle burglaries are overwhelmingly “crimes of opportunity”. Officers noted that perpetrators rarely force entry by smashing windows or picking locks; instead, they routinely check for unlocked doors.

To guard against these incidents, police advised drivers to always lock their doors and take their keys indoors. To prevent “smash-and-grab” thefts, authorities strongly urge residents to remove all valuables from their vehicles entirely.

If items must remain in a vehicle, officers recommend hiding them in the trunk, glovebox, center console, or beneath seats. Police noted that keeping valuables out of plain sight removes the incentive for criminals to break in and can significantly reduce a driver’s risk of becoming a victim.
