LOGAN — The Logan City Police Department is urging residents to secure their homes and vehicles, reminding the community that most local burglaries are strictly crimes of opportunity.

Authorities report that in nearly all recent residential and vehicle theft cases, suspects gained access simply by opening unlocked doors. To help reduce property crime, police are asking residents to remain vigilant and adopt a few basic daily security habits:

  • Lock up: Always lock doors and windows, both at home and in vehicles, regardless of whether you are present.
  • Hide valuables: Remove all keys and valuable items from your car. If you must leave items behind, store them completely out of sight in a locked trunk or glove compartment.
  • Secure deliveries: Empty your mailbox daily and bring packages inside as soon as possible to deter “porch pirates.”

Police emphasize that eliminating easy access is the most effective way for residents to protect their belongings and partner with law enforcement to keep the community safe.
