LOGAN — The Logan City Police Department is reminding residents of two frequently misunderstood parking regulations in an effort to improve traffic flow and help drivers avoid fines.
To maintain safety and predictability on the roads, authorities are highlighting the following restrictions:
- No “left-to-curb” parking: Police explained how vehicles parked on two-way streets must have their passenger side against the curb, facing the direction of travel. “Left-to-curb” parking is prohibited because it forces drivers to travel against oncoming traffic when pulling in or out of a space, creating a hazard for motorists who are not expecting a vehicle to emerge from the wrong side of the road.
- No backing into angled stalls: Officers noted that drivers must pull into angled spots facing forward. Backing into spaces often requires dangerous multi-point turns that block traffic lanes. Because angled parking is designed for one-way flow, pulling in forward also ensures drivers are positioned at the correct angle to safely see oncoming traffic when exiting.
The department stated that parking in the correct direction ensures vehicle reflectors and lights remain visible to others at night, keeping movements on the road safe and predictable.
