LOGAN — A 29-year-old Logan man already in jail for reportedly obstructing justice and theft, is facing more charges of allegedly sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl, according to police. Victor Chavez-Flores has been in the Cache County Jail since being arrested March 23.

Chavez-Flores was arraigned on the new crimes during a virtual hearing Friday morning in 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; dealing in materials harmful to a minor, a third-degree felony; and lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor.

Cache County Deputy Attorney Griffin Hazard explained how Chavez-Flores reportedly molested the alleged victim multiple times. He would also show her pornography, while exposing himself to her.

Chavez-Flores spoke through an interpreter, asking the court for a public defender.

Hazard also asked the court to hold Chavez-Flores without bail. He claimed the suspect did not have a permanent residence and could flee the area. He also said he posed a risk to the community and the alleged victim if released from jail.

Judge Spencer Walsh agreed with Hazard and ordered Chavez-Flores to remain in jail and appear again in court Monday afternoon.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
