LOGAN — A 44-year-old Logan man has been arrested for downloading child pornography, according to law enforcement. Timothy Kevin Patten was booked Wednesday into the Cache County Jail after police raided his home.
According to an arrest affidavit, Logan City Police officers received a cyber-tip in September from a social media platform. The company reported that several files had been uploaded over their servers that were believed to be child sexual abuse material.
The social media company provided officers with four pictures and three movies the suspect had saved to the site. Six of them were determined to be child pornography, showing girls well under the age of 18, police reported.
Officers traced the Google account that uploaded the files to Patten’s cellphone, home address and work email account.
Police reported that as they searched Patten’s Facebook account it appeared he was a “church going person with a strong interest in the public welfare.” However, other accounts showed “a very dark side where he is openly seeking for and distributing (child sexual abuse material) in stark contrast to his public appearance,” the probable cause statement detailed.
On Wednesday, police served a search warrant on Patten’s residence and vehicle. They seized a computer, cellphone and other electronic devices, for further inspection.
Patten was interviewed by officers at the police department. He invoked his right to remain silent and would not answer any questions.
According to jail records, Patten was booked on six counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, a first-degree felony. He was later released from jail, pending arraignment of formal charges in Logan’s 1st District Court.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
