LOGAN — A 33-year-old Logan man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 5-year-old girl, according to law enforcement. Darwing Esmerling Sequeira-Crovetto was booked into the Cache County Jail after police served a warrant to his home.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, the alleged victim’s father contacted the Logan City Police Department in December claiming to have witnessed Sequeira-Crovetto inappropriately kissing his daughter. This has reportedly occurred at least three times.
Police later spoke to the young girl. She disclosed that Sequeira-Crovetto (a family friend) had molested her while her mother was sleeping.
The girl’s father mentioned noticing behavior changes from his daughter. He suspected something was wrong but did not know what was going on, the charging documents stated.
Police attempted to question Sequeira-Crovetto on Jan. 12.He reportedly invoked his right to an attorney and would not speak to investigators.
Sequeira-Crovetto made an initial appearance Wednesday in Logan’s 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; and unlawful kissing of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
Despite defense attorney John Diamond’s request for bail, Judge Brian Cannell ordered Sequeira-Croetto to remain in jail, expressing concern with the charges. He ordered the Logan man to appear again in court Jan. 21.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
