LOGAN — A 26-year-old Logan man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a family member’s home Wednesday afternoon, according to law enforcement. Shaiman Marcus Begay was booked into the Cache County Jail after being tased by police.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Logan City Police officers responded to a report of a male individual who forced entry into a residence. The alleged victim was hiding in a room, afraid for their safety.
The suspect, later identified as Begay, was believed to be armed and under the influence of methamphetamine. He also had been diagnosed with Schizophrenia and Biopolar Disorder.
Upon arrival, police made multiple call-outs to get Begay to exit the residence before entering the home. The suspect allegedly refused to comply and attempted to provoke officers to shoot him.
Begay was eventually tased by officers and taken into custody after resisting arrest. Tests later showed he was under the influence of methamphetamine and THC, according to court documents.
Police searched the home and found the back door broken, indicating Begay had forced his way in. They also reported the suspect had previous assault charges and protective order violations.
Begay was arraigned Thursday afternoon in Logan’s 1st District Court during a virtual hearing, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; and misdemeanors for possession of a controlled substance, property damage, interfering with a peace officer and prohibited conduct with a dangerous weapon.
Cache County Deputy Attorney Dane Murray requested the court hold Begay without bail. He explained how officers found the suspect in possession of a straight razor after the reported break-in.
Judge Spencer Walsh ordered Begay to remain in jail and appear again in court June 4.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
