LOGAN — A 27-year-old Logan man who was previously convicted of sexual assault is being bound over for trial on new allegations of raping another woman. Arthur “Bryar” Robinson was ordered to face the new charges following a judge’s ruling Friday morning.

Robinson participated in a virtual hearing in 1st District Court. Judge Spencer Walsh ordered him to be bound over on 17 felonies of aggravated sexual assault, object rape, forcible sodomy, aggravated kidnapping and forcible sexual abuse.

Judge Spencer Walsh amended one of the kidnapping counts to a third-degree felony, noting that prosecutors hadn’t provided sufficient evidence to justify the harsher charge. He read a portion of the alleged victim’s testimony, where she claimed Robinson forcefully raped her in November 2016.

The latest case was filed after Robinson was originally arrested in October 2020, after another woman claimed she was raped multiple times. He served more than 15 months in jail while the case proceeded through the courts.

In February, a jury found him guilty of three reduced counts of sexual battery after defense attorney had argued the relationship with the woman was consensual. He was later ordered to serve 15 months in jail but given credit for time already served.

During Friday’s hearing, defense attorney Scott Williams entered pleas on “not guilty” to the charges. He requested a jury trial.

Judge Walsh scheduled the four day trial to begin May 2. He ordered Robinson to appear again for a pretrial conference April 10.

Robinson didn’t speak during the hearing. He is currently out of jail on pretrial supervision and could face up to life in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
