LOGAN – At their next regular meeting on Nov. 21, the members of the Logan Municipal Council will likely vote on whether to approve a new schedule of fees for select services provided by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Under proposed Resolution 23-49, that schedule includes fees for the ice rink at the new Laub Plaza in downtown and price increases for the Logan River Golf Course, according to Russ Akina, the city’s Parks and Recreation director.

Akina’s staff has recommended that the base fee for using the downtown ice rink would be $5 per person for a 90-minute skate session.

Discounted 90-minute sessions would be available for seniors over 60, military veterans and children under the age of three for $3.

The city’s staff has also recommended that the ice rink offer a special $15 rental rate on Monday evenings for a family of five or less, with additional family members costing $3.

Equipment rental fees are proposed at $3 for ice skates, $3 for a skate trainer/walker and $1 for a helmet.

Alkina explained that the Parks and Recreation staff developed that fee schedule by reviewing the rates for various services charged by comparable ice facilities through northern Utah.

Resolution 23-49 also proposed that the ice rink be open from 4 to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays, 12 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 12 to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.

After surveying the prices charged by other golf courses throughout the region – including Birch Creek, the Barn, Bountiful Ridge and Eagle Mountain golf courses – the city’s recreation staff also proposed fee increases for the Logan River Golf Course.

The staff recommended that an adult season pass fee would increase from $1,100 to $1,200; a season pass for senior golfers would rise from $1,000 to $1,100; and a junior season pass would jump from $350 to $400.

The adult green fees for 18 holes would increase from $36 to $38. Green fees for adults for 9 holes would increase from $18 to $19.

The 18-hole fee with a golf cart would increase from $54 to $56.

The city’s staff also recommended that the fees at Logan River for adults and junior season passes for the driving range – now $500 and $150 respectively — and a golf cart season pass ($700) would all increase by $50.

Members of the municipal council discussed Resolution 23-49 as a workshop item at their meeting on Nov. 7, then took those recommendations under advisement until their next meeting.

If approved, the new fee schedule would take affect on Nov. 22.
