LOGAN —First responders and community members will gather Friday, Sept. 11, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks with a morning honor guard ceremony and an evening stadium stair climb.
The day’s commemorations begin at 9 a.m. on the south side of the Logan City Police Department building with a Patriot Day Combined Honor Guard Commemoration. The public is invited to attend the flag ceremony in remembrance, honor, and unity.
Logan City Police Chief Jeff Simmons said the ceremony will include bagpipes, ringing of the bell, a 21 gun salute and taps. The honor guard will be made up of members of the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, and Logan City fire and police departments.
In the evening, the Logan City Fire Department, in collaboration with the USU Department of Public Safety and the USU Veterans Resource Office, will host the 25th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Merlin Olsen Field on the USU campus.
The stair climb will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to honor the 2,977 lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and pay tribute to the first responders who climbed the World Trade Center towers to save others. Registration for the climb opens at the stadium at 5 p.m., and the first 400 participants to register will receive an event t-shirt. All members of the public are invited to participate.
