LOGAN — Multiple Cache County law enforcement and fire agencies will conduct active shooter response training at Logan High School starting Monday afternoon, district officials announced.
The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) will involve the Logan, North Park and Smithfield police departments, along with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, Logan Fire and Cache County Fire. Dozens of officers will be in full tactical gear to simulate real-life emergency scenarios inside the school building.
Logan City Police Chief Jeff Simmons said it is a scenario nobody likes to think about but still needs to be prepared for. It also strengthens the cooperation between agencies that exist in the valley.
The initial training runs March 9 and 10 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Subsequent two-day training sessions are scheduled for April, August and September during those same hours.
Shana Longhurst, director of communications for the Logan City School District, stated that the highly visible drills will not interfere with after-school activities. Follow-up training will be conducted in April, August and September.
