LOGAN — A 33-year-old Lewiston man has been arrested for allegedly stealing power tools and other equipment from numerous vehicles and selling them at several pawn shops, according to law enforcement. McClain Mark Scott was booked Monday into the Cache County Jail after deputies served a warrant to his home, finding some of the alleged stolen items.
According to the arrest affidavit, the Logan City Police Department was called to a vehicle burglary at an apartment complex May 17, 2024. The alleged victim claimed that power tools were stolen from the bed of their pickup truck, which had been parked at the complex overnight. The items were valued around $3,970.
Law enforcement reported the burglary was similar to other thefts that had occurred throughout the valley.
As the investigation continued, police officers reviewed records from pawn shops along the Wasatch front. It showed that Scott had pawned various items 103 times at different stores between April 2024 and August 2024, according to the affidavit for probable cause.
Cache County Sheriff’s deputies obtained a search warrant for Scott’s cell phone data. It allegedly showed the suspect in the area on the dates and times the thefts occurred.
On Dec. 23, a search warrant was served on Scott’s residence. Law enforcement reportedly found numerous tools and power tools stolen from multiple vehicle burglaries, court documents detailed.
While being questioned by detectives, Scott reportedly admitted to committing numerous vehicle burglaries in Cache County. He explained how he would steal the items and then sell or pawn them at several shops on the Wasatch front. The crimes were so numerous, he could not remember all of the locations nor the items taken.
During the search of Scott’s residence, law enforcement also reportedly found white crystal like substance, syringes, burnt cannabis and THC concentrate in a bedroom and bathroom. A drug test later showed positive signs the suspect was under the influence of methamphetamine.
According to jail records, Scott was booked on suspicion of committing multiple thefts and burglaries. He was later released, pending the completion of law enforcement’s investigation and possible charges.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
