LOGAN — A 46-year-old Lewiston man has admitted to raping a woman and molesting a young girl for several years. David Garcia has been in the Cache County Jail for over a year, since being arrested Feb. 9, 2024.
According to court records, Garcia appeared April 16 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; and two counts of sex abuse of a child, amended to a second-degree felony.
In exchange for Garcia’s guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed eight remaining charges without prejudice, meaning they could be refiled again.
In July 2023, a woman reached out to CAPSA, a nonprofit domestic violence, sexual abuse and rape recovery center. She explained how she and her children had been victims of sexual and physical abuse for several years.
The woman later spoke to Cache County Sheriff’s deputies, describing how Garcia had raped her several times. The abuse often took place when the Lewiston man had been drinking.
A young girl also told law enforcement how Garcia had molested her for several years. She said the abuse would occur sometime on a nightly basis, when the defendant would enter her bedroom and inappropriately touch her.
Garcia has remained in jail, being held without bail, while the criminal case against him proceeded through the court. He is scheduled to be sentenced June 4 and could face up to life in prison.
