HYRUM — The Cache County Sheriff’s Office was called to a report from a local resident Friday night, who discovered what appeared to be old military ordnance buried on his property.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Ramirez said deputies confirmed the object’s appearance suggested it could be military ordnance.

To ensure public safety, deputies temporarily evacuated nearby homes in Hyrum as a precaution. The sheriff’s office coordinated with Hill Air Force Base, whose explosive ordnance disposal team was called to the scene and managed the item’s safe removal and disposal.

Deputies asked residents to avoid the immediate area while the explosive ordnance disposal team completed their work.

Ramirez said the military ordnance was assessed by the EOD team and determined to be inert. The item was safely removed for disposal, and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
