September 18, 1939 ~ November 21, 2023 (age 84)
Janace Mace Nelson 84, of Perry, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Tuesday November 21 in Perry, Utah. She was born September 18, 1939, in Roosevelt, Utah, the first child of Harvey G. and Iona Nielson Mace. She had a delightful childhood spending it mainly in the Uintah Basin area. When she was fourteen years old, her family moved to Perry, Utah. It is here that she met her future husband. She married Adrian Peter Nelson on September 30, 1955, in Perry, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple on May 15, 1993.
Janace loved being a stay-at-home mother and enjoyed many things which included, women’s fast-pitch softball, sewing dresses for her daughters, canning food from their garden, painting, cake decorating, gardening, cooking, crafting, quilting, and traveling.
Later, when the kids were in school, she decided to take a beautician course and afterwards put in a beauty parlor in the backroom of their house. She was a hairdresser for over 25 years.
She co-owned and operated a children’s clothing and dancewear store with her mother and 3 daughters, Mitzi, Shelly, and Brenda called “Tree Top Toggery”. They shared many fun times going to market together and had the best-dressed kids in town.
After retiring, Janace and Adrian spent their winters in Yuma, AZ for 30 years. It was here that they enjoyed being part of the Temple Riders Association (TRA), a motorcycle group with the same values that traveled together on their motorcycles to LDS temples to do temple service.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many capacities and taught Primary children for 16 straight years.
Janace had an innate quality for service. She was the first one to take over homemade chicken soup, sharing her famous blackberry jam, walking with a friend, or helping her children. In her later years she loved volunteering her time at the Brigham Hospital and made many friends there.
She is survived by her husband, 4 children, Mitzi (Bill) Jeppesen of Mantua, Shelly (Rick) Reber of Lapoint, Brenda (Cordell) Hill of Perry and Clint (Karen) Nelson of Perry, 17 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Connie Gilbert of Huntington, UT and Bret Mace of Perry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Diona Perry, her grandson Derek Hill and her great-grandson Dylan Shaw.
Her family would like to thank the caretakers from Maple Springs, Beehive Homes of Perry, and CNS Hospice for all their love and care given to our mother.
