A “definitely underage voter” nevertheless does his part in the 2023 municipal election by depositing his family’s ballots in a drop box outside the Cache County Administration Building on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
LOGAN – The Municipal General Election turned out to be a good night for Logan incumbents and for challenger Mike Johnson.
In mail-in balloting for three at-large seats on the Logan Municipal Council that concluded on Nov. 21, incumbents Mark A. Anderson and Jeannie Simmonds each won another four-year term in office.
In unofficial results reported late Tuesday by City Recorder Teresa Harris, Anderson was the big winner of the night with 3,089 ballots, about 24 percent of the votes cast in Logan.
Newcomer Mike Johnson came in second, garnering 2,509 ballots, about 20 percent of the voter turn-out.
The race for the final seat on the city council turned out to be a neck-and-neck contest between Simmonds, former council member Joe Needham and challenger Katie Lee-Koven.
Surprisingly, veteran council member Jeannie Simmonds barely edged her rivals in that race.
Simmonds captured 2,183 ballots, about 16.9 percent of the vote, compared to Joe Needham with 2,121 ballots (16.42 percent) and Lee Koven with 2,082 ballots (16.12 percent).
The final candidate in the running, Erin Bennett won 930 ballots, for 7.2 percent of the vote.
Harris cautioned that these are unofficial results that could change as the staff of the Cache County Clerk/Auditor’s offices continues to count votes, particularly those for Simmonds, Needham and Lee-Koven.
The final official count will not be available until the Logan Municipal Council conducts its canvass of the general election results.
That meeting is slated to take place at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5 in the City Hall Conference Room.
The Logan City Hall is located at 290 North, 100 West in downtown Logan.
