Since Wednesday, five more Utahns died of COVID-19, bringing the state’s coronavirus death toll since the start of the pandemic to 4,556. That includes 236 in Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties.

Thursday the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) reported 173 new positive cases, which compares favorably to the state’s new rolling seven-day average for positive tests (156). The last six days Utah’s COVID case count has been under 200 each day.

It was 62 days ago, Jan. 14, the largest single day case count of the pandemic was recorded: 13,521.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 926,332 positive cases in Utah, and about 52,000 in Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties which comprise the Bear River Health District.

About 59 percent of those living in northern Utah are totally vaccinated. Total population of the three counties is 186,818.

Hospitalizations reported Thursday amount to 156 Utahns which is 16 fewer than on Wednesday. Among those currently hospitalized, 29 are in intensive care, five fewer than Wednesday. Thursday UDOH reported almost 73 percent of the state’s ICU beds are filled, but COVID-19 patients comprise less that eight percent of the total.

Since the pandemic began 33,767 Utahns have been hospitalized.

With 1,795 people vaccinated since Wednesday, the number of Utahns fully vaccinated stands at more than 1.993 million, more than 61 percent of the state’s population. More than 4.9 million doses have been administered.

2,137 Utahns were tested since Wednesday which means more than 4.97 million people have been tested and over 9.3 million total tests have been administered the last 24 months.

The latest seven-day rolling average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 5.5 percent while the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests” is 3.4 percent.

Idaho’s Thursday COVID update indicates 4,831 coronavirus deaths and a new total of confirmed COVID-19 cases is 440,783 statewide. New case counts in the three southeast Idaho counties include 2,330 total positives in Franklin County, 909 in Bear Lake County and 798 in Oneida County.
