LOGAN — Law enforcement have released the identity of a man killed in a two-vehicle crash Feb. 28, west of Smithfield. The accident was reported around 5:33 a.m. at 2400 West SR-218.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Kendrick said Martin Jenson, an 82-year-old Amalga man, was driving northbound on 2400 West, when he failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of SR-218.

A Nissan Rogue was eastbound at the time and T-boned the Hyundai on the driver’s side.

“We don’t know why (Jenson) missed the stop sign,” said Kendrick. “There are large signs with flashing red lights at the intersection. Why he missed it we don’t know. It was a cold foggy morning but there was no fog in the area and the roads were dry.”

The impact of the crash sent the Hyundai rolling into a nearby field.

Troopers report Martin and his wife Kaylene were both wearing seatbelts. They had to be extricated from the Hyundai.

Kendrick said, Martin was transported by ambulance to the Cache Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Kaylene and the driver of the Nissan did not sustain any serious injuries.

Funeral services are still being arranged.
