LOGAN — A 22-year-old Rexburg, Idaho, man arrested for a hit-and-run crash in North Logan last spring has admitted to multiple crimes and will now await sentencing. Sam Ivan Robins was originally arrested March 18, 2025, after police reportedly deployed a stun gun to take him into custody.
According to court records, Robins appeared April 20 in 1st District Court for a review hearing. He previously pleaded guilty with a mental condition to three counts of negligently operating a vehicle resulting in bodily injury, all third-degree felonies.
According to prosecutors, North Park Police officers were called to a vehicle crash at the corner of 1600 North Main St. When they arrived, debris was found in the roadway, but the defendant’s vehicle was gone.
Police later located a white cargo van in the nearby Walmart gas station parking lot. The vehicle had extensive front-end damage.
Officers witnessed a man, later identified as Robins, exit the van and begin walking away. They instructed him to stop, but he reportedly ignored the orders.
Police explained that when they grabbed Robins’ arm, he swung an orange object at them and pulled away. He continued fighting with officers until a Taser was used to subdue him.
The other parties involved in the crash received “significant injuries,” police reported. One patient suffered a brain bleed and facial injuries. Two others were also described as having facial injuries, charging documents detailed.
Police searched the white cargo van and located a vial containing a substance suspected to be marijuana. Several drug paraphernalia items were also found, including several glass bottles.
Robins reportedly admitted to police that he had taken dimethyltryptamine (DMT). Blood and urine samples were later collected and sent to the Utah State Crime Lab for analysis.
During the court hearing, Judge Spencer Walsh ordered Robins, who is presently out of jail, to undergo a presentence investigation. Sentencing was scheduled for June 10.
